We regularly say at Serve we exist to help people find and follow Jesus.

Because He’s the most extraordinary, breath-taking, beautiful, and transformative person who’s ever walked the earth. He’s God in the flesh. We believe Jesus changes everything and everyone, and God extends his extravagant love to you, to me, and to everyone through the person of Jesus.

At the heart of the Christian faith is a God who is reaching down to us in and through the person of Jesus. Jesus himself said it this way:

“For God so loved that world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but inherit eternal life.” – John 3:16

That eternal life can begin now by believing him, by trusting Jesus as Lord and Savior. So what does that look like?

Paul, one of the early church leaders writes this:

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” – Romans 10:9-10

The first step is to proclaim Jesus as the Lord, the leader of your life. Jesus is not an addition, or a nice part of life. When you proclaim Jesus as Lord it is the acknowledgement that your life is His-all aspects of your life are now surrendered to Him. Do you need to be cleaned up, perfect, before you proclaim Him as Lord? No. Instead you invite Him as Lord, and Jesus will begin to transform you continually as you walk with Him.

Hand in hand with the proclamation of Jesus as Lord is Jesus as Savior. It’s the deep realization that apart from Christ, we as humans are sinners. We fail to love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength. We fail both in the things we do (wrong thoughts, words, and actions) and also in the things we leave undone (not caring for the poor, not loving our neighbors like ourselves etc). We NEED Jesus to save us from ourselves. We need Jesus to rescue us, and Jesus did that on the cross.

Out of the proclamation of Jesus as Lord and Savior, there’s a corresponding belief that Jesus raised from the dead. He conquered the greatest enemy, death itself. Jesus, who died on a cross, who was buried in a tomb, did not stay dead! Instead, he rose from the grave victoriously. The resurrection of Jesus validated Jesus’ life, teachings, ministry, and sacrificial death on the cross!

If you confess him as Lord and Savior and you believe he rose from the dead, you have begun the journey of following Him! You are a Christian, and we believe we were made to walk out the journey of following Jesus together.

Have you made the decision to follow Jesus? If so, let us know!
